Meet Sing Shen

  1. How/what age did you start your instrument?
I started playing the piano when I was six and began learning the violin at seven.
  2. Did you come from a musical family?
No, I’m the first musician in my family. However, my parents both deeply valued music. I grew up listening to a lot of CDs and classical radio.
  3. Best or funniest (or even worst!) musical memory from childhood?
My sister and I both loved doing musicals. I remember a song from my English class called Seven Cookies. We dressed up and sang it dramatically, then asked our mom to record us. I’m pretty sure I’ve loved performing since I was little!
  4. A highlight or two from your performing career:
I was a member of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra from 2021 to 2024. I performed with many top soloists and met wonderful colleagues. It felt like a dream to play in a professional orchestra.
  5. What do you love about teaching?
It’s a pleasure to work with each student on their musical journey. I love seeing them grow and improve. Building a bond with my students is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching, and I truly value each of them.
  6. What would you like your students to know about you?
I value developing a healthy character. No matter how long you study with me, I hope you take away positivity and perseverance—qualities that can benefit you throughout life.
  7. Can you share a non-musical fun fact about you?
I love working out! I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2019.
